1960s Magnetic Brake Assembly

One nice as-removed condition motor driven actuator assembly as manufactured for the US military effort by Airborne Accessories, Corporation of Hillside, New Jersey.  I suspect it's 1960s vintage and was clearly built for USAF or USN as a "Magnetic Brake" unit as that's how it is marked upon the data plate. But it's very similar to other motor driven actuators we've had that have been used for either a trim tab, cowl flap, oil cooler door or carb air box drive assembly, given the type of splined shaft cable drive connection point at the end of the gear box.

Data tag on the  motor drive unit identifies it as:

AIRBRONE ACCESSORIES CORPORATION HILLSIDE NEW JERSEY MADE IN U.S.A.
MAGNETIC BRAKE
DUTY: INTERMITTENT
VOLTS: 28 RPM: (LEFT BLANK)
AMPS: .5 TORQUE 120 LB. IN.
S/N: 1381 MODEL: R420M20
PS 196 REV. C

No clue as to airframe application.

Unit is powered by a 3-pin Cannon plug connector that is connected and still has a stub of wire. We have NOT function tested this unit but assume it's a working core. Fits on a square mounting pad drilled for .025 inch bolts. Actuator arm is fine threaded stainless steel presumably for fitting with a control arm on a bearing and held with a 3/8" nut.

Application escapes me. Nice and heavy. Looks like all of the safety wiring is still intact and nothing had been raided.

Again, un-tested by us, but appears to be a nice piece. It was warehouse stored for decades when we acquired it. Again, no clue as to the original application for this unit.

A little dusty from removal and storage - but that's about it. Slight dust and no damage to paint condition.  No other demil marks or bumps or signs of abuse or drop damage.
Exceptional condition.
