Chromium in its pure form is an independent chemical element, a kind of salt solution. It has been successfully used for more than 200 years in creating durable and practical shoe leather. The process of its extraction is called chrome tanning, which can be single and double. After carrying out all the necessary processing steps, the skin becomes especially strong and elastic at the same time – exactly as everyone knows it. These qualities are in demand at all times for sewing practical and comfortable real Cossack shoes.

As for the interior decoration, a different material is used here. Popular polyurethane or rubber is used for the sole. The insole is sewn from thinner leather, cardboard or fabric. Cossack chrome shoes have always been considered the most reliable also for the fact that the sole is not only put on a strong glue, but also stitched. Additional inserts are installed on the back and sock.

Today, this type of shoe is slightly outdated and is practically not used in the army. It was successfully replaced by special tactical sneakers and boots. But for ceremonial exits and solemn military events, only real chrome shoes are always used. It is also very popular nowadays among reenactors, who use it to restore the original shape of different times.
