THIS IS NOT AN ENTIRE DRILL PRESS. IT IS A SLOW SPEED INTERMEDIATE PULLEY AND ADAPER ONLY.  Example drill press shown to illustrate fit and function only.  No belts included.

READ IT ALL.  It's YOUR Job.  Read it all.

Slow speed drive system specifically to fit Atlas 73 & 74 drill presses.  Atlas made many Craftsman drill presses, likely candidates listed below.  Reduces (or increases) RPM at chuck.  Slower cutting speeds work better for metals.  Larger diameter cutters such as hole saws, paddle and Forstner bits cut better with less heat when turned at proper speeds.  Small diameter bits require higher speeds.  This pulley while capable of cutting your final output speed in 1/2 is also capable of doubling it making bits under 1/8" bits must less fragile.    Add about $350 value to your vintage American iron.

Adapter NEW and made by me in my shop.  Comes assembled and ready to drop in.  Components include cast iron 4 groove pulley, ball bearings, full length steel shaft, steel rotation handle pin,  and ABS adapter.  Made in the style of the original although some dimensions altered to optimize for materials and additive manufacturing process.

1) Your machine MUST have a column with 2.5" bore.  (Shown in photo 3, caliper upside down).  This is typical of many drill presses with 2.750" columns.  If you have a different size, please contact me.

2) The column must be capable of protruding through the top of the head casting. (See caliper photo #3.)

3) Made for 4 groove pulley system requiring 1/2" belts or 4L belts. (Converts your 4 speed into a 12 speed with both slower and faster speeds.)

4) Flipping the motor drive pulley over is required.  All of them I have seen can be flipped without machining.  I have not seen yours.

5) Adjusting the head height on the column may be required for best belt alignment.

6) Your belt guard (if so equipped) bottom or base plate must not cover the drill press column. If it does, a hole must be cut approximately 3" in diameter to reveal the tube opening.

7) Craftsman and Atlas drill presses must have swoopy wave like casting on top surface.  Check my other listings for flat top head castings.  Setup extends pulley up to height of spindle pulley from lower location of column tube top as the rare factory accessory did.

This item includes: Metal pulley loaded with ball bearings, my Atlas factory style  pivot column adapter and locking clamp assembled and made to drop into your 2.5" id column.  The column adapter is manufactured by additive process simulating design of original parts.  Modifications made only for strength accounting for engineering with ABS.  Several post processes including boring for quality fit of components.  Assembly is made by me in my shop including made, sourced and modified parts.  The drill press, belts and any other objects in photos are props used to illustrate application of slow speed update kit and are not included.

Don't buy this hoping it will fit.  MEASURE THE BORE of your column.  If your bore is different, please send me a photos of your drill press, caliper measurements and model of drill press.  I just might make a special one for you.

Photo Key:

1.  Shown in Atlas 73 / 74 drill press casting and tube.  Note how the casting swoops upwards from the top of the tube.

2.  The pulley adapter and hardware.  This is what you are buying.  Nothing else shown is included.

3.  Caliper showing 2.5" ID measuring tube.  Note, you might get 2.480 to 2.520, anything in that range is fine.

4 & 5. Showing other views of the kit you are buying.

6. My part shown next to a factory part.  Closely simulates.  Mine has a bit more material since I am engineering with ABS and not cast iron.

7. What a typical belt guard looks like an 73 or 74.  When is somebody going to come out with Atlas tee's???

Following information is not warranted.  Provided as a record of my experience with my machines and sourced information.

Drill Presses I have installed this assembly on:

Atlas "73", "74" 15" (probably all 15" models with similar swoopy or wave top head casting and same column tube)

Drill Presses I have measured:
Atlas "73", "74" 15" (and all similar models)  2.5" id

Drill Presses suspected to be the same tube and head casting below.  Measure yours, do not depend on this list!

Atlas 63,64,72  (Likely the same, let me know, send me photo's, happy to help you figure it out.)

Craftsman 101.03622, 101.03662, 101.03682, 101.24810, 101.BD2B, 101.03621, 101.24820,

Craftsman and Atlas drill presses must have swoopy wave like casting on top surface.  Not flat top head castings. With 2.5" id column tube.

DO NOT RELY ON ABOVE LISTS.  It is up to you to MEASURE YOUR TUBE ID.  This item fits 2.5" tube ID.  Let me know if you need something different.

This is not a buy it and try it listing.  I can't afford shoppers.  Make sure you have the correct drill press and measure before ordering.  There are no excuses.  There will be a 25% restocking charge if you return.  I just want a simple life where I sell my cool things to people who want them.  ;-)
