The development goal is to improve braking performance compared to the original brake disc. EBC uses low carbon HPSR steel, which has an 18% higher coefficient of friction. This steel is much more resistant to rust than cast steel. In addition, the entire surface is protected by a 3 micron thick layer of zinc, which is abraded in the area of the pad contact zone during braking. Only in this area can rust more easily during extended life.
The brake discs are drilled in Vogelschwingendesign to get along with as few holes as possible while optimizing the cleaning of the brake disc of rain water and brake dust. The fewer holes fitted, the better the wet braking performance and the less wear.
