Peter Johann Nepomuk Geiger (1805 Vienna - 1880 ibid.) was a very renowned Austrian painter and illustrator of the 19th century. He began his artistic career with wood-carving, making especially pipes for smoking. Geiger then turned to drawing and painting becoming a popular illustrator who was also very active as painter. He made many works on commission of the Royal court and Viennese aristocracy. The historical accuracy and lovingly painted details brought him the honourable title "Austrian Menzel". Works by Geiger are displayed at the Austrian National Gallery, the Berlin National Gallery and other public collections.

*This drawing belongs to the cycle "Memorabilien", which was created by the artist in 1830's.
