Cuban artist, Juan Dubalon, was raised in a humble, Cuban, mostly uneducated family. The pioneer of his own life, Dubalon became an electronic engineer by profession, was also part of the military, a professor and a science researcher. A topper to his impressive variety of professional accomplishments, he has also been dedicated to the arts for over 20 years. He is proud to see his legacy; his five children, all determined minds holding bachelor’s degrees.
Since childhood, art has been a constant in Dubalon’s life. Though he considers himself an autodidact, his social education, studies, extensive international travel, exposure and appreciation for other Cuban artists have influenced him both on a personal and artistic level.
Similar to the spirit of the artist, Juan Dubalon’s works are reflections of the pursuit of happiness. Subject matter such as butterflies and people are tangled amidst bandages and restrictions; only freed by their own determination and courage. The meaning he seeks to reflect in his art is reminiscent of the challenges he experienced growing up coupled by the character he incites in his own children.
