We present a super quality watercolour and mixed media study, a doorway entrance, ascribed to a label verso No. 11  Haut de Cagnes Elizabeth Organ Exhibition 1971:
one of several works by the artist featured in this auction.   The painting is dated 1969.  Elizabeth Jane Organ (British, 1934 – 2009) was a prolific artist, highly respected gallery owner and patron to new, emerging artists like Hockney and her husband, the portraitist Bryan Organ, and a leading art lecturer.  Born in Birmingham, 1934, after grammar school Organ graduated from the Leicester College of Art and was offered a lectureship at the Loughborough University.   She married the artist Bryan Organ and spent her early professional life promoting his work alongside other contemporaries, Eugene Fisk (whom she would later marry following her divorce), David Insaw, Alfred Stockham and Roger Cecil.  Organ regularly exhibited her own works of art, landscapes and portraits working mostly in watercolours, crayon and graphite.  She later founded the Kilvert gallery, which became a sanctuary for new artists eager to exhibit alongside established figures, such as David Hockney, Lettice Sandford, the sculptor Edward Folkard and the painter Rachel Windham, to name a few.  Many examples of the work of Elizabeth Organ can be seen on artprice.com, findartinfo.com, askart.com, arcadia.com, bonhams.com, christies.com besides many provincial auction sites.  Her work s collected worldwide.   Presented in excellent condition in its original exhibition frame (please see shipping options above), this painting will look fabulous displayed.
