Signed and, I believe, ID'd in red at bottom right, dated 1893, but I have not figured out the signature. Perhaps you can decipher it - if so, email and we'll add. I've owned this painting for many years. Beautifully composed and a portrait of her time, I've loved the palette, as well. She holds a popular (then) ostrich feather and shell fan and wears a red coral snake bracelet and on the other wrist, a woven hair art memento (mourning jewelry). The gown is high fashion of the era, as well. There is a calm to her and an elegance. A large painting, oil painting on stretched canvas, she is not in a frame. I love the Paris apartment habit of leaning paintings against the wall when the walls are full - she's ready, though, to hang with or without a frame. Full measurements noted on photos - 39" x 32", large!

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, I will point out immediately that there has been an effort at restoration of what may have been a hole or small tear at the chin of portrait. Not professionally done, it has an unusual patch visible from the backside, and the paint-over isn't perfectly done. I always thought I'd have it restored, but I've lived with her too long now and don't mind the signs of age.

Insurance has been eliminated as an option by ebay, forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
