Set into a rectangular, gilt silver (see illegible hall-mark on bottom of the verso) box in Rococo style, this miniature is portrait of King Friedrich II (The Great) of Prussia. This work was executed by the latter's court miniaturist Anton Friedrich Koenig. In this ca 1755 portrait, the King is shown wearing the uniform of Prussian general field marshal.

The well-known German miniaturist Anton Friedrich Koenig (1722 Berlin - 1787 ibidem) was a pupil of C.L.Blesendorf and A.Pesne and from 1767 worked as royal portrait miniature painter in Berlin, being the most fruitful North German miniaturist of his time. He is supposed to have made several thousands of miniatures alone of Friedrich the Great!
