"CAHIR CASTLE: standing on the banks of the River Suir
on the main Dublin-Cork road is the splendid structure of Cahir Castle.
Erected in 1142 by Conor O'Brien, Prince of Thomond, this mainly 15th
century castle, now fully restored and open to the public, was the largest
of its period in Ireland. Guided tours are available (enquire at castle). This
castle has witnessed much history, been under siege in 1599 and later in
1650 was surrended to Cromwell."
