W present a super quality marine landscape in oils, a yacht leaving a harbour, believed to be Shoreham in Sussex, southern England. The work is signed lower right, Castle, the pseudonym of the Newhaven, Sussex- based marine artist, Erik Harvey (British, 1924 - 2017). The painting dates c1970s. Working in oils and acrylic oils, this example is typical of Harvey’s marine portraiture landscapes:. fine attention to detail, almost an architectural representation. Erik Harvey was self-taught and mostly exhibited his paintings with art societies in the south of England, where he was based.
