Loose Leaf Tea
Kenya Tinderet Broken Pekoe 1
Fair Trade Ethical Tea Partnership
This is a Broken
Pekoe grade, also called CTC or Cut Torn Curled from the Kericho region of
Kenya on the lower slopes of Mount Tinderet, near to the Eastern shoreline of
Lake Victoria. The Tinderet Estate has gained endorsements from Fair Trade and
Ethical Tea Partnership. The comes at a time when international owned companies
are investing in mechanized plucking equipment. This can reduce labour costs by
50% but does not necessarily make for a better product, handpicked tea generally
is of a higher quality. The Kenyan teas are typically robust and make for a
quick brewing cup of coppery orange coloured, full-bodied, malty tasting infusion.
They drink well with or indeed without milk, just brew slightly less for milk
free tea. The name Tinderet means Place of Lightning and is often prone to
afternoon thunderstorms.
