Bridge Crane -- Kit

Walthers Part # 933-2906

The Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Bridge Crane is an ideal addition to waterfront industrial or transloading scenes on your railroad. Coal is the life-blood of any coke or gas works and a ready supply is always needed. Many plants were located alongside waterways, which allowed massive amounts to be delivered by ship. To reach into their holds, special bridge cranes with longer booms extending beyond the dock were used. These made quick work of unloading using a large clamshell bucket to stockpile coal nearby. At steel mills these big cranes were also used to unload limestone; at other docks they were used for handling aggregates and ores. This impressive kit has a modular design and additional parts so you can build a longer or shorter version to fit your available space. With its superbly detailed steel truss work, operators cab, clamshell bucket, trolley and more, it will be a focal point of any scene. On the waterfront, it makes a great stand-alone coal or aggregate dock crane, and its a natural at a steel works handling iron ore, coal, and stone. The Bridge Crane is a natural addition among other Cornerstone HO Scale industrial buildings and especially among waterfront structures.

A Great Station for any Railroad
*Whitehall, Wisconsin, Prototype *Similar to Small Town Stations Across U.S. *Fits 1900s to Present *Authentic "Brick" Exterior *Covered Platforms on Two Sides *Attractive Curved Windows and Gabled Roof

Typical of depots built in the years just prior to 1920, the 1914-built Whitehall Station was located on the Green Bay & Western Railroad in Wisconsin. The prototype was built to replace an earlier wooden structure. Whitehall was built as a combination depot; inside its Flemish Bond brick walls it housed a central ticket counter and operator's bay, separate men's and women's waiting rooms and a freight room. Large arched windows let in plenty of light and an angled operator's bay afforded the agent/operator a good view down the tracks. A long canopy extending along the platform on both ends kept passengers sheltered while boarding. The freight room handled parcels.

The depot served travelers until 1949, but remained an active freight agency until 1963. The City of Whitehall purchased the depot in 2003 and restored it as a small museum. The structure remains in its original location along the former GB&W mainline, in 2006 owned by Canadian National. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This Cornerstone Series kit will look great serving trains with Walthers streamlined or heavyweight cars. Parts come molded in appropriate colors; the prototype was built from red brick. For setting your scene, the freight doors can be positioned open or closed so you can add a baggage cart or cargo being transferred between the freight room and the platform.

Walthers Part # 933-3170

Seen alone or in groups wherever oil is found, Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Walking Beam-Horse Head Oil Pump kit is a great way to model a part of this vital industry anywhere on your layout.
Finding oil is hard work - and so is getting it out of the ground. If the oil is thin enough and there's enough underground pressure, it may flow into the well on its own. This may continue for a few hours or a few years, but in time, the pressure drops.
Today, nearly 95% of all US oil wells require pumps to stay in production and one of the most common is the walking beam or horse head.
The Walking Beam Oil Pump typical of North American designs in use since the 1920s and includes a detailed stationary diesel power plant, walking beam, rear crank and counterweight, along with the odd-shaped "horse head" front counterweight that gives the machines their nickname Designed from the ground up to be a working model, the kit includes a hidden drive.
Whenever you're ready, just add the Universal Gearbox and Motor Drive Kit 933-1050 - sold separately, to power your pump. Complete instructions and precise engineering produce a great looking, easy to build replica.
