Jean Lepautre (engraver; French; man; 1618-1682)
Designer, engraver, publisher; the first of the Lepautre dynasty, brother of Antoine the architect and father of Jacques and Pierre. Trained as a menuisier under Adam Philippon, he released his first courses. Prints from 1644 until his death, initially for publishers such as Jean Leblond and Pierre Mariette, later for de Poilly and himself as well; life of him poorly documented, but a member of the Académie in 1677.
