Photograph Notes: For the main discussion of the wharf, which is now represented only by some lines of posts on [[3542511]], see [[1496335]] (where the background details are also described). The sandy area to the right of the far end of the wharf was, in the latter half of the nineteenth century, occupied by what is annotated "Bowling Green" on the 1864 OS map (it had gone by the time of the 1899 OS map). It is debatable whether this was the green of a bowling club (in which case, I wonder what the club was called), or the village green. On a large mound at the near end of the ruins of the wharf, a pair of posts can be seen; the posts are about six metres tall, and perhaps (I am speculating) supported a sign associated with the wharf. The mound is similar (except in size) to one that is located about 550 metres further upriver: [[1493444]].
