Cycle of eight handcolored lithographs - illustrations to opera "Rigoletto" by Giuseppe Verdi.

Franz Wacik (1883 Vienna - 1938 Vienna) was one of the leading Austrian Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) illustrators, graphic artists, and stage designers at the beginning of the 20th century. He began his artistic career at the Vienna Painting School of Strehblow; was later a pupil of the stage designer Alfred Roller at the Vienna School of Applied Arts(1901-1902); from 1902 to 1908 - studied at the Vienna Academy under (at first) Professor Christian Griepenkerl, then under Franz Rumpler, and, finally under Heinrich Lefler. In 1906 he began working for the Viennese satirical magazine "Die Muskete" and was active there until 1919. In 1924 he painted frescoes for the cafe in the building of the Vienna Secession (he was a member of the Secession from 1900 until his death in 1938).
