Photograph Notes: Fairy Steps is the first rapid of real significance on the descent of the River Spean from Spean Bridge to Mucomir - the classic Spean Gorge trip. Despite the overcast and rain, the snow on the hills had barely started to thaw, so this was run at a low level, when the river is more technical, but perhaps swims less serious than in higher water. Fairy Steps still had some powerful cross-currents and eddies and I don't think anyone took exactly the line they had visualised at the top (except myself - I visualised walking round it, and did exactly that).
