Photograph Notes: A closer view of [[[4511155]]] and [[[4511153]]] This 14 metres-tall Portland stone obelisk, with four servicemen (infantryman, artilleryman, sailor and airman) at the corners, was unveiled by Field Marshal Earl Haig and dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury on 21 October 1921 to commemorate the 3719 men of the London & North Western Railway Company who died in the Great War. A further inscription was added for the men and women of the London, Midland & Scottish Railway who died 1939-45. Each of the bronze figures stands with head bowed and weapon reversed in mourning. Dedication on the front face reads : In memory of our glorious dead. On a marble panel on the front facade: In grateful memory of 3719 men of the London and North Western Railway company who for their country, justice and freedom served and died in the Great War. 1914 - 1919. This monument was raised by their comrades and the company as a lasting memorial to their devotion. On a stone panel on the left facade and also on the right: Remember the men and women of the London Midland and Scottish Railway. 1939 - 1945. Standing on a bus roundabout in Euston Grove, this war memorial is one of the few remnants of the grand pre-1962 station complex.
