Pierre Michel Adam was a well-known French engraver. He was born in 1799 in Paris and died in the same city in 1853. Pierre Michel Adam was the son of Gabriel Thomas Adam (1773-1843), also a skilled engraver, and Marie Marguerite Durand. He was probably the cousin of Victor Adam, and the nephew of Jean Adam, who were also engravers. He entered the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris on January 30, 1813. He was a pupil of Pierre-Narcisse Guérin and Oorteman. He also worked with François Gérard, Louis Hersent and Alexandre-Joseph Desenne. For eight years he was a professor of engraving at the Royal Institute for the Hearing-Impaired.
