Vladimir Svyatoslavich — Prince of Novgorod (969-978), Grand Duke of Kiev (978-1015), under whom the Baptism of Rus took place.

He became the prince of Novgorod in 970, seized the throne of Kiev in 978. In 988 he adopted Christianity according to the Greek rite, and also made it the state religion of Kievan Rus. In baptism, he received the Christian name Vasily. He is known by the names Vladimir I, Vladimir the Saint, Vladimir the Great, the Red Sun, Vladimir the Baptist (in church history).

In the epics, the Red Sun became the prototype of Vladimir. Glorified in the face of saints as equal to the Apostles. The Day of Remembrance in Russian Orthodoxy and Catholicism is July 15 and in the Cathedrals of Galician, Pskov, Kiev and Volyn saints.
