printed more than 140 years ago.
- It shows counties, cities,
towns, and natural features, with topography drawn in relief.
- Named places and features include Augusta, Bangor, Dover,
York, Machias,
Portland, Alfred, Bath,
Skowhegan, Belfast, the Atlantic Ocean, Machias, Sebago Lake, Mount
Katahdin, Pownal, and Vinalhaven.
- The image area measures 23.8 x 17.2 cm [9¼" x 6¾"], and
longitude is measured from Greenwich and Washington. The overall size of the sheet is
10¾" x 8".
- The map was drawn and engraved by W. & A.K.
Johnston and issued in the 9th edition of the Encyclopædia
Britannica,
published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, in 1883.
- Condition: It is in excellent condition,
bright and clean, with no
rips, tears, or writing. The map is blank on the back, with no printing
