Well-known German architect and decorator Wilhelm Kimbel was born in 1868 in Wroclaw (Breslau) in a carpenter's family and began to study drawing under his father. In 1889-1894 he worked as an architect in the USA. In 1897 Kimbel founded in Berlin a company "Kimbel & Friedrichsen" together with his friend Aßmus Friedrichsen. The enterprise produced interior decoration and furnishings for many famous castles and public buildings using Kimbel's designs. In 1908 the artist was awarded a Golden Art Medal and a title of Court Decorator. Kimbel's numerous architectural and furniture sketches were published in "Innendecoration", 1903.
