This is a .999 Fine Silver handmade Pirate cob!

100% USA made!

A fun way to add silver bullion to your collection in the form of unique pirate treasure!

Completely handmade by me, using the exact methods that the originals were made with, to the exact weight the originals were made to, all right in my shop in Northern New Hampshire.

I am one of only three artists in the world making pirate coins this way!! And of those 3, the only one that has a real Pirate element to mine.  The rest use molds they simply pour the silver into.

I melt down the fine silver and form it into perfect flat planchettes completely by hand.  Then I strike it between two dies of my own design.

The dies I designed are modeled after the historical 1600-1700 era "Pirate" coins (known as cobs).  Only, I took the liberty to add a slight "piratey" element to them!

The front has the classic shield design seen on the famous "Spanish 1715 fleet" cobs.  To the left of the shield you find the mint mark "L" (my last name), and the assayer mark, "T" for Tortuga, one of the biggest pirate hubs at the time. To the right you have "8" for 8 Reales. Surrounding that you have the words "Levate Vexillum Atrum", latin for Raise the Black Flag!

On the back you have the cross design with "lions and castles" as seen on the famous 1715 fleet cobs as well!  Then on the edge the words "Homines Mortui non dicunt Fabulas 1715" latin for Dead men tell no tales!, a true pirate mantra.  And "1715", the year the famous Spanish fleet hit a hurricane just east of Florida and got destroyed, sending thousands of silver and gold cobs in to the ocean not far from shore!

This listing mostly shows the "8 reales" denomination / size.  It was the largest of the silver coinage back then.   They weigh the same as the originals, roughly 27 grams and are roughly the size of a silver dollar or 1.5".

Comes in a cotton bag with a sweet Black Spot Guild sticker.

But this is just an example of the coins you would receive, and NOT THE EXACT ONE. As each one is hand melted, shaped, and struck, no two are alike.  Each one has the same design but vary quite a lot in shape, cracks, and what portion of the design actually shows up on the cobs, just like the originals.

I also make them in a full ounce size (super popular amongst bullion collectors) and the smaller 2 and 4 reales sizes. (7 and 14 grams.)

There is also the option for a 100% handmade sterling silver bezel you see in two of the pictures. I charge $40 to add the bezel.

Your other big decision is a natural silver finish or a darkened/aged look. Just message me after purchasing and let me know which you prefer.

If you would like to buy the classic 27 gram 8 reales cobs, feel free to just order as many as you want using the Buy-it-Now.  If you would like something specific, a bezel, or for me to make you your own "hoard" contact me and I will make it happen and create a specific listing for you!  Again, make sure you tell me if you want them to have the natural or aged finish.

I do not keep a ton of these made up. Once the order is placed, I will make your cobs and ship them out. As such, expect a week or so before I can ship them.

And as a clarification, each purchase is for ONE nearly full ounce solid .999 silver coin, NOT eight of them. You can buy 8, but you would need to change the quantity to "8", and would cost you $440. Plenty of people do that, but just to clarify that if you only order 1, you will get one "8 Reales" cob.

By default these are "natural" tone.  So, if I don't hear back from you about the finish, I will ship it natural. (as apposed to antiqued.)  So again, please let me know which finish you want, otherwise I will keep it natural.

Feel free to ask any questions!
