This (accompanied by a battle scene and biographical text) portrait of French Republican officer (he was appointed by Napoleon "Premier Grenadier de la Republique"), Théophile Malo de la Tour d'Auvergne (1743-1800) was etched in 1801 by Parisian engraver Levachez. The battle scene is a work of Levache's colleague, Jean Duplessi-Bertaux (1747-1819).
