We present a super quality antique landscape study in watercolours, a view across moorland to forestry beyond, by the British painter, James Orrock (Scotland, 1829 – 1913). James Orrick was a prominent Scottish collector and patron of art and oriental ceramics, an illustrator and painter of landscapes in watercolours of some repute and recognition. He studied under William Leitch (1804 – 1883) and John Burgess (1829 – 1897) , later enrolling in the Nottingham School of Design under Thomas Stuart Smith. (1815 – 1869).  Orrock established his studio in London in 1866, was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1871, exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy,. Collections of Orrock’
s work are held at the Victoria and Albert Museum and at the National Gallery, Edinburgh. Many examples of the work of James Orrock can be seen on artprice.com, arcadia.com, findartunfo.com, artnet.com, askart.com besides the auction sites of bonhams.com, christies.com and several provincial auction houses.  Presented in very good condition in a later frame, this painting will look fabulous displayed.
