About The Set

Handmade with love and care in the South of England.

This listing is for a brand new Isle of Lewis chess set inspired by the originals which date back to medieval times.

This is a more distinctive interpretation using many unusual pieces and is an excellent choice of the Lewis genre of chess set.

You will not find this set on the internet as it was put together myself using some of the far more unusual Isle of Lewis pieces that don't seem to be used.  Including the pointy helmeted and moustached Warder, the quirky Bishop leaning to one side as if he's had one too many, the Large King and Queen and the mini Warder Pawns

The 96 Lewis Chessmen were discovered in 1831, on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland by a local shepherd.

Construction

Each set is hand cast in a hard and durable natural mineral giving a lovely carved stone like feel, painted, stained and glazed to give a durable high quality result yet still retaining a certain ceramic and antique finish.

The king is just over 10 cm in height and the set and unpacked weights approx. 1.9KG! Would suit a board, not included, with squares 2 inches or more.
