Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel (1881 Wunsiedl - 1965 Vienna) was one of the most important Austrian artists of the first half of the 20th century. After studying in Munich and travelling through Italy he came to Vienna as a 16-year old boy in 1898. In the same year he started studying at the Vienna Academy of Arts and became friends with Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffmann. In 1911 he was appointed Professor at the Art School in Frankfurt, but soon returned to Vienna. Jungnickel’s works were displayed at the greatest exhibitions of his time: in Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Rome, Amsterdam, San Francisco, etc. Today his paintings can be found in collections of major museums all over the world.
