In the former kitchen, now the garage, there is said to be a dog's treadmill used for turning the spit. The so-called, Turnspit dog was a short-legged, long-bodied dog bred to run on the wheel and is now extinct. One source describes the Turnspits as 'long-bodied, crooked-legged and ugly dogs, with a suspicious, unhappy look about them'.
