Joseph Hoeger was a very well-known Viennese landscape painter and watercolourist of the 19th century. Student of J.Rebell at the Vienna Academy, he experienced a strong influence of the German romantical artists J.C.Erhard and J.A.Klein. J.Hoeger married the daughter of the painter Jacob Gauermann and became friends with Gauermann and his sons, famous landscape painters Friedrich and Carl Gauermann. In 1849-1851 J.Hoeger was Professor of the Vienna Academy. He regularly exhibited in Vienna between 1832 and 1860. Works by him are displayed in the significant museums of Austria and abroad.
