Very rare vintage gilt Brayton Laguna USA pottery standing foo dog guardian lion in the Art Deco style and in mint condition. Circa 1930s-1940s. 

This is excellent vintage Brayton Laguna Pottery, 1921-1968, started by Durlin Brayton in his Laguna Beach, California studio. He was one of the main designers along with Andy Anderson. Brayton Laguna is credited with originating the concept of designing and selling sets or pairs of ceramic figurines. Their work is a fine example of vintage California Pottery.

This is a very early vintage gilt porcelain foo dog with lovely Art Deco styling. It is fabulous with interesting sculpted design and patterns, bold majolica glazes, and hand painted 24k gold highlights. This is Chinese style foo dog lion, with big fierce black eyes that glare, and sharp teeth baring from reticulated mouths. They have winglike ears and sculpted fluffy manes and tails. The glaze colors are green and a creamy yellow, and its finished with generous, thick, hand painted 24k gold highlights in Deco patterns. The foo dog has some dark yellow glaze accents as well. They measure 8.5 inches talk by 8 inches lobg by 4 inches wide and is in excellent, mint condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There is a small amount of age related crazing. Missing felt pads on the bottoms for furniture protection. marked Brayton Laguna USA.
