“Hector Aguilar was born in 1905, he apprenticed under William Spratling at a young age, and by the age of 30, he was the top shop manager for William Spratling. Inspired by Aztec and Mextex art, Aguilar preferred to work with purer silver (rated at 940 rather than the customary 925 of Sterling Silver). Gifted with a keen business sense as well as his artistic ability, and due to wartime shortages in the US, Aguilar was able to secure a contract with the American costume jewelry company Coro in 1943, to produce silver jewelry, supplying Coro with unique Mexican designs until 1950. In 1948, Aguilar opened the Taller Borda, which quickly became one of the premier retail silver outlets in Taxco, where they offered the highest quality fine silver jewelry, hollowware and flatware that was produced at the Aguilar workshops. was an innovative and talented but as important, he established the model for the artistic development and growth of the silver industry in Taxco and it is from this foundation that the industry exists today. His contribution to design and to the silver industry of Mexico lives on through the reproduction of his work.”

This is a super rare if not one of a kind statement piece. You are looking at an early 1950’s Hector Aguilar Taller Borda hand carved Mayan Aztec Warrior head design bolo tie made of sterling silver and a green color stone. Not sure what type of stone it is or if it’s a type of ceramic. Not too familiar with Aguilar pieces. Just know that they are extremely rare to find and are very expensive. This is the only Hector Aguilar bolo tie that I can find available for sale at the moment. Definitely a super rare collectible piece. I added plenty of pictures including measurements for you to see. The sterling bolo tips have a few dings (see pics). The bolo weighs a solid 56+ grams. This wonderful rare piece will make an excellent addition to any Taxco or southwestern jewelry collection. I’m setting a very low buy it now price of $495. Take advantage of this rare find at a very low price. Thanks for looking and make sure to check out my other listings.
