Set into an Austrian 585-gold brooch (Austrian hall-mark for 1872-1922; total weight 13,1 gram), it is a fine miniature portrait of a relatively young Viennese woman. Very likely it is a work of well-known 19th-century Viennese portraitist (and also a miniaturist) Georg Raab.

Georg (Georg Martin Ignaz) Raab (1821 Vienna - 1885 Vienna) studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Art from 1833 to 1837. In 1837-1848 he exhibited at various academic exhibition and later - at the Vienna "Kunstverein" and "Künstlerhaus". He painted miniatures, watercolor and oil portraits and did numerous lithographs. Most of the time he worked in Vienna, where he did numerous commissions for the Court and local aristocracy. Between the years 1840 and 1848 he lived for at least some time in Budapest, where he was very gained much recognition in the high society.
Schidlof says further that "Raab was the last great Austrian miniaturist of the middle of the 19th century".
