Watercolored lithograph by Leopold Fischer (1814 Vienna - 1860 Vienna) after painting of Natale Schiavoni (1777-1858).

Leopold Fischer (1814 Vienna - 1860 ibidem) was a very well-known Viennese portrait miniaturist, watercolor artist and lithographer. He studied at the Vienna Academy and began exhibiting in 1832. For a long time he lived in Italy and in London, where at the Royal Academy he exhibited six miniature portraits of the London high society members. Many of his works formerly belonged to old Russian collections - an indication that many of his sitters were Russians. And in reality: there is a confirmation of his one-year-long stay in St. Petersburg in the 1850s. One of his descendants, a lady living in Vienna is in possession of his diary from these years where he describes his (and his wife's) life in the Russian capital.
