In present work a model corn zeinbased medicated chewing gum for motion sickness was developed. A modified fusion method suggested by Mc Gowan and co workers was used for the preparation of corn zein MCG. Based on the results of RSM (Response surface methodology) studies corn zein concentration of 57.6 % w/w was optimized and used in the current study. Various formulations of corn zein MCG samples were prepared varying only the plasticizer content (MCG1 to MCG10). The corn zein MCG formulations were prepared using various plasticizers like (A) PEG 4000, (B) PEG 200, (C) PEG300, (D) PEG400, (E) Triacetin, (F) Tributyl citrate , (G) Oleic acid, (H) PEG 600, (I) Castor oil and (J) Triethyl citrate. The solvent used was 75 % (v/v) ethano lwater mixtures. This study demonstrated the feasibility of using corn zein as a MCG base and its potential for future use. A possible way to further improve on stability of corn zein MCGs is to incorporate waxes in the formulation, which may improve shelf life, and texture.
