The Algeria 500 Dinar Banknote comes from the 2018 issue that highlighted Science and Technology and replaced the previous versions to eradicate forged banknotes. The obverse side features the Alcomsat 1 satellite, the first Algerian communications satellite, with the Earth in the background. Meanwhile, the background shows satellite dishes, an outline of the map of Algeria, and a bridge. The banknote is 150 x 71.7 mm in size and has shades of purple and olive green. For protection, it has a green windowed security thread and a watermark that bears the image of Emir Abdelkader, a 19th-century religious and military leader, sometimes dubbed the "George Washington of Algeria".
