Sir Tow Mater, better known as Mater, is the deuteragonist of the Cars franchise. In the films and TV show, he is a major character in Cars, the main protagonist of Cars 2, a supporting character in Cars 3 and one of the two main protagonists of Cars on the Road. In the TV shows, he is the titular protagonist of his own Tall Tales series, one of the main characters of Tales From Radiator Springs. He is a recovery vehicle that is the owner and only employee of Tow Mater's Towing & Salvage, located in Radiator Springs, Arizona, United States, where he resides. He is a major character in the entire series overall.

In 2011, he helped United Kingdom intelligence service solve Allinol conspiracy as well as arrest many high-leveled members of The Lemons crime organization including its leader Miles Axlerod. On 15 July 2011, The Queen of United Kingdom knighted him for personal service to the sovereign by inducting him into the Order of the Garter.

He is Lightning McQueen's best friend and loyal sidekick.

Montgomery "Lightning" McQueen[1], sometimes known by his other nickname, Stickers, given by Sally, is the main protagonist of the Cars franchise, appearing in nearly every installment, with the only exception of the Planes franchise (although a cameo of him was seen on a newspaper, appearing in Planes: Fire & Rescue). In the films and TV show, he is the main protagonist of Cars and Cars 3, one of the two main protagonists of Cars on the Road and the deuteragonist of Cars 2. In the TV shows, he is the deuteragonist of Mater's Tall Tales and one of the main characters of Tales From Radiator Springs. He is a stock car that competes in the Piston Cup Racing Series since 2005, where he was sponsored by Rust-eze, using the number 95, and won seven Piston Cup championships. In 2017, he briefly became the trainer and crew chief of Cruz Ramirez for the Dinoco Piston Cup team.

Lightning resides in Radiator Springs in Arizona, United States, where his racing headquarters are located. He is in a relationship with Sally Carrera.
