Arabia of Finland Ruska 3" Demitasse Cups 6oz Lt & Dk Brown Pottery Ulla Procope
Object: This auction is for a lot of 2 Arabia of Finland demitasse cups in their discontinued Ruska pattern (1962-99) designed by prolific Finnish ceramics designer, Ulla Procope. Each piece is in fair condition with some wear to note. These cups are being sold at a reduced price because they will come "as is." Please see photos and condition section below.
Artist/Studio: Ulla Procope (1921-1968) for Arabia of Finland
Origin: Finland, Scandinavia
Year: Produced from 1962 through 1999; due to wear, can estimate these are probably from the 1960s or 1970s.
Signed: Unmarked. The Arabia white mark is gone from these cups, as is common on older Arabia pieces.
Pattern: Ruska
Color: Autumn colors: Dark browns and light reddish browns; white unglazed foot rims.
Material: Stoneware ceramic pottery
Surface: Smooth surfaces; semi-gloss glaze; unglazed foot rims
Technique: Factory produced
Features: Distinctive high D shaped handle; straight sides; slightly flared rims; beautiful speckled, spotted glaze; hand wash; unglazed foot rims.
Condition: Fair condition being sold "as is." Each makes a nice presentation. There are flaws to note. The darker cup has a white spot on the handle's side that looks like a glaze miss, and there is also one where it meets the cup body that could be a bump or another glaze miss. The lighter cup has a hairline crack down the side across from the handle, as indicated by the white spot on the rim where it starts. Both cups have a tiny white dot or two in the brown glaze. Some white marks in the photos are camera glare and not surface wear. Any other irregularities in glaze, shape or color, any fleabites, etc. would be from the manufacturing process and not damage of any kind. Most of our items are estate finds and are in good to excellent used condition. Vintage, pre-owned items will not usually be in mint condition, but may show signs of age, use, or wear from being pre-owned and loved for many years. We try to describe any and all condition issues but may miss some. A defect not noted does not constitute an item "not as described."
Measurements: Each cup holds 6 ounces and measures 3" high, 3 1/2" wide including the handle, has a 2 3/4" diameter opening and a 2" diameter base.
Weight before Packaging: Both pieces together weigh 14 ounces.
