c1931 Weymann Style 50 Tenor Banjo serial number 46730.
This
tenor banjo is in very good condition. The neck and frets are fine, cosmetically
showing playing time with numerous marks and nicks primarily on the back. This
amount of patina is not unusual for an instrument this age. This is an
unrestored banjo and all elements of the design and construction present well.
The
resonator is mahogany and the headstock overly is a beautiful piece of
Brazilian rosewood.
One
of the 21 tension rods is missing.
The 1931
Weymann 50 4-string Tenor banjo is listed in the 1930 catalogue. H.W. Weymann
died in 1930. It was the entry model but it does have the megaphonic rim which
is its most important feature. The Weymann megaphonic rim is what gives
Weymann’s their unique sound.
It is
among the best sounding banjos of the period, very warm and almost mellow by
comparison. Banjos can be harsh because they had to cut through the brass on
early recordings and live on stage.
This is
verbatim from a Weymann advertisement:

*Please
note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it
impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the
"mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important
to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks
like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body
cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and
blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If
you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional
photos can also be made available.
This is a
specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar
location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still
available before purchasing.
*It is our
policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please
let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will
automatically require a signature.
If you
prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and
the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the
