Alfons Purtscher was a well-known Austrian-English artist active in the first half of the 20th century. He studied at the Munich Academy under the famous animalist Heinrich von Zuegel, worked in Germany, then in Austria (member of Viennese "Hagenbund" in 1925-1935). After the Nazis had seized power in 1938, the artist emigrated to London. His works can be seen at "Neue Pinakothek" in Munich and in other German and Austrian museums.
