On offer is a pair of Harman Kardon Onyx portable speakers in black. This set was purchased in 2016 and used as wired, Wi-Fi bookshelf speakers until 2018. After I upgraded my system, these speakers were boxed and never used again. This speaker has been discontinued and is no longer part of the Harman Kardan line-up.
These speakers are not part of the Onyx Studio series. (Some have referred to these as “the OG Onyx speakers, for what that’s worth.) These speakers are very portable and have terrific sound. The speakers have never been used outdoors, but my tests of the batteries show that each maintains approximately 4-5 hours of playback time. These speakers are not optimized for play on 5GHZ Wi-Fi bands, but I’ve used them on both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ Wi-Fi without issue. The original boxes, a copy of the packing slip, power cords and original inserts are all including in this listing. Neither speaker came with a detailed Owner’s Manual, but I’ve downloaded that from the Harman Kardon website and could certainly include it, too, as part of the purchase.
Condition Report:
The speaker’s aesthetic trademark is its handle, a silver metallic “Saturn-like” ring. Oblique lighting reveals virtually no deep scrathes or scuffts to either handle. The removalbe fabric faceplates are clean and snag-free. The rubberized rings that surrounds the circumference of each speaker are clean, stiff but responsive to touch. There is no evidence of cracking or splitting here. The pebblegrain leather detail on the rear is clean, virtually scratch-free and in terrific condition.
To my ears, the sound is full, rich and powerful, especially for a speaker of this size. I am happy to share a brief video of either speaker playing a selection of your choosing, if that would assist in your buying decision. (I understand that sound quality is very subjective, and since I’ve only used these speakers for playing classical music, I’d like to assist buyers who are concerned about bass response, for example.) The Harman Kardon app that can be used with these speakers (“HK Remote”) has a setting that can be used to “widen” the playback sound.
Return Policy:
As a longtime buyer of vintage items, I understand that
disappointments sometimes happen. Terms
like “excellent” and “near mint” are subjective, meaning wildly different
things to different people. And it can
be difficult to agree on when “wear and tear consistent with age” has ventured
into the territory of actual damage.
Rather than quibble, if you
are dissatisfied with any item that you purchase from me, for any reason,
simply return it to me within 14 days in the condition in which it was sent,
and I will happily refund your money, including outbound shipping costs. Of course, should this item sustain any damage during transit, you will receive a complete refund. All I ask in return is that you document any damage, retain all packing
materials, and assist me during the claims process.
In my experience, the best transactions are ones where there
is open, honest communication on both sides.
My goal is to find happy homes for these treasures, with the hope that
they will bring their new owners as much joy as they’ve brought me.
Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions. I’d rather be deluged with questions than to
