A very scarce mid- to late-20th century turquoise and silver ring by Navajo artist Edgar Mason (1908-1986).
One pale green cabochon of turquoise with just a touch of grey matrix rests in a deep, slightly exaggerated sawtooth mount, flanked on either side by wide, finely detailed hosta-esque leaves. Traditional stone, mount, and metal paired with unusual forms and symmetry for Navajo pieces of this era create an unusually calming piece of art.
Fully hallmarked "E. MASON" inside the band, reference Native American and Southwestern Silver Hallmarks by Hougart, 4th edition, p. 229. Slightly snug size 7.5 Our tests show the silver to be at least 90% pure.
