Original 1899 antique color lithograph titled The Flags of the Union, printed more than 120 years ago.

  • The image area measures 33 x 26.8 cm [13" x 10½"] and features a handsome gallery of flags, banners, and pennants of the United States of America.

  • The official U.S. flag at that time had 45 stars.

  • Other flags shown include the Union Jack, Colonial Flag, Bunker Hill Flag, and the "Original Stars and Stripes," also known as the Cowpens Flag.

  • The slogans in the scrollwork at the bottom of the lithograph read: "One Flag, One Cause, One Country" and "United We Stand, Divided We Fall," words which have a special resonance today.

  • Beneath the U.S. pennant and shield are portraits of two of the key admirals of the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War:  George Dewey and William Thomas Sampson.

  • Text in the lower margin describes certain flag protocols, including the flying of a flag at halfmast as a sign of mourning.

  • This lithograph was published by George Franklin Cram, Chicago in 1899 and is an original, authentic antique print, not a reproduction or modern reprint. It is fully guaranteed to be genuine.

  • Condition:  It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
