These Giclee (a process that produces such outstanding results it is extremely difficult to tell the original and the reproduction- read more below) reproductions of antique engravings come from the elegant catalogue of the Duke of Devonshire's collection, the most complete record of the works of one of the greatest landscape painters of the late Renaissance period, Claude le Lorraine -
.
The giclee printing process produces outstanding results, making it impossible to distinguish between the original and the copy. This state-of-the art process has been responsible for dramatically improving the printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto fine art, and photo-based paper resulting in better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.
The mount board was designed by Trowbridge and is acid free and meet Fine Art Trade Guild requirements for conservation. Each board is lignin free, alkaline sized, pH neutral and is calcium carbonate buffered to enhance its useful lifespan by minimizing the effect of atmospheric pollutants
The frames are beautiful and made by hand by craftsmen using traditional techniques. These specific frames with the black and gold detailing ARE RARE AND CANNOT BE FOUND AND ARE NO LONGER PRODUCED. The frames are finished with gesso to seal the wood and then apply layers of red and black bolle and paint or silver and gold metal leaf by hand.
