Vasili Sergeevich Karkots was born in Banovka in the region of Kostanay, in 1926 in a working class family. From 1947 to 1952 he studied at the Tashkent Art School. In 1952-54 he lived and worked in Chimbay (Uzbekistan) and taught art at the Chimbay Pedagogical School. After 1954 he was active in Shymkent, Kazakhstan until 1975, thereafter in Mykolaiv, Ukraine. He started exhibiting in 1961. Karkots mainly specialized in landscape and genre paintings. He died in Mykolaiv in 2005.
The artist was a Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. His works are in museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
