Description: This was very recently acquired as the absolute centerpiece of an original one-owner collection of more than 50 Mark Hopkins bronze sculptures. Up until this point, it was easy to determine the catalog for Mark Hopkins because each bronze sculpture was serial numbered in editions from 50 to 950 and was well documented.  There was no previous evidence that this magnificent piece even existed and there are logical reasons why.  First and foremost, all other pieces have detailed corresponding paperwork and this one has none.  Second, this piece has three different bronze-colored tones and two parts are polished to create dazzling effects very different than anything else Mark Hopkins ever created.  Third, this piece is autographed in black permanent marker on the base and is one of the only ones known like this. All other Mark Hopkins autographs are either on the green felt bottom or on rare occasions, done exclusively for his best clients, on the reverse side of the sculpture.  This art was personally commissioned by the late dealer Jim Sanders who owned the Eureka Springs, Arkansas Gallery named 83 Spring Street--this bronze sculpture was available exclusively to select advanced collectors in only that one location, thus the scarcity.
