In The Manor Of Joan Miro Circa 1946 Ink And Gauche Dog And Butterfly. 8.5” x 19.5”

The Miro foundation did not like this, they made a judgment from a color film positive. The thing is that there is a similar one in the Miro Repository in Spain? Have not seen it. The one here however has a mistake on it, an error. I believe this painting to be original and the artist simply revisited the composition- a very common thing, look Monet’s thirty different haystack paintings.

Study the details on this. Gauche and ink on (Japon) paper. There is a light pencil sketch under some parts. Some on the ink had been properly gone over twice (a common thing for india ink) and some has not — and there, right in the middle ! A water splop! All of us artists have had such an easy mistake happen- boom! The painting is spoiled. Worth noting? If someone was doing a rip-off of Miro? They would have done a much better job.

The signature is spot on for the era, circa 1946. He did work on Japanese paper. The painting is of his dog chasing a butterfly, he visited this theme a few times. The painting certainly shows it’s age. It is just before the era of where he started mass production lithos which are more of what people are seeing.

Again- The Miro foundation was negative on this, no provenance, ect.- which I get, they have to error on the side of safety, and they have a boatload of safer bets, Miro is said to have cranked out som 60,000 pieces- wouldn’t you if people were throwing money at you? The guy sold every scrap of paper he could!

I bought this 20 years ago from an antique show in Michigan. It used to have a black matt it was taped onto on the top edge. Paper is a bit yellow on the edges from age. Image is fine, no loss to paint.

Any who— if you want what very well could be and original— at a fraction of the price due to my tedious details listed above, this is your chance!

Do some research on this! I certainly did. Study the details. Very exiting! Hint? Stick to the 1940’s era work to save you sone time.
