For sale, a Trio (i.e. Kenwood) KR-720 early eighties silverface amp / receiver with digital tuning (from the days when this was quite a rare feature.)  This model is more commonly found in the Kenwood-branded twin version; the Trio itself is somewhat rarer from what I can see.

The unit powers up and the tuner section seems fine (display shows frequency and the actual tuning dial LED changes from red to green according to how well-tuned the station is) however there is a SERIOUS fault with this unit.  There is a known issue with the KR-720 - which has been referred to as a design flaw but I'm not qualified to offer an opinion on that - where one channel can become unstable (there is useful discussion online about this on forums such as audiokarma.)  When I first connected this to speakers it blew the right one (burning plastic smell); because this was a tiny surround satellite speaker I unfortunately wrongly assumed this was down to a poor choice of speaker on my part so tried connecting something more suitable for a hifi but it blew that too with similar symptoms.  At that point I realised that the issue was with the receiver itself and decided to call it a day!

So basically the current situation with this is that I assume it will continue to damage any right speaker connected until the underlying channel fault has been repaired.  This is therefore a unit only really of use to someone with the skills to diagnose and correct the right channel issue before doing any further testing of it.  But if you do have the ability then I'm sure you'll end up with a nice, stylish receiver.

Unit is collection only from Hereford due to size / weight.
