This release is a special thing for me I have personally sponsored it out of a desire to bring Notre Dame back into the public eye of our metal world and also those of the uninitiated. My introduction to Notre Dame was very special. When I listen to this tape last night after it was shipped to America by Snowy, I had a similar feeling to when I first discovered Notre Dame on Le Theatre du Vampire on vinyl back in 1998. We were well aware of Snowy Shaw and his drumming with King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, but we had no idea what was in store at Notre Dame. At the time my drummer ( Rocky Matazarro - Crimson Moon) and I worked at Blue Meannie Records, a famous heavy-metal record store in Southern California. Neither one of us had a record player at the time we were broke playing in a black metal band called Karnal Intuition. We had CD players but no record player. I was off work that day when I got a call at home from the record store, it was my drummer telling me about the Notre Dame record that we just received in stock. He bought the record even though we didn’t have a record player, and he told me to start asking around if anyone I knew have a place that we could listen to it. I was in community college at the time part time taking some art and language classes, and I found a college schoolmate who was housesitting for their grandparents. These grandparents had a record player. We went to the co-ed’s house later on that night in Lemon Grove on a rainy San Diego night surprisingly enough. I lower the lights in the parlor where the record player was located. The girls who were housesitting their grandfathers place were not heavy metal chicks in the least. I can only imagine what they thought was about to happen. When the album began to play and the music came through the speakers we were aghast. This was quite unlike anything we had heard before and Snowy looked like a totally different person. Gone was the young brash upstart with glowing hair. In his place stood a twisted vampiric fiend. Thus began my walk with the Parisian vampires. After all these years have gone by, and Notre Dame had close the books on their legendary exploits, I still have a fondness for that evening. I hope that all of you who purchased this tape and rediscover Notre Dame for the genius that it was in the late 90s early 2000s metal scene. I don’t believe any band since or going forward will be able to capture the atmosphere and black comedy that Notre Dame so eloquently stated in it’s short but powerful and creative career.
