This is an original hand-painted Lord Ganesha or Ganapati
Thangka Painting. Ganesha, also known as Ganesha or Ganapati, is one of the
most widely worshipped deities in Hinduism. He is known as the remover of
obstacles and the lord of beginnings, intellect, wisdom, and success. Ganesha
is depicted with the head of an elephant and a human body. He is often
portrayed with a plump belly, multiple arms, and rides on or is accompanied by
a mouse.
According to Hindu mythology, Ganesha is the son of Lord
Shiva, the supreme god, and Goddess Parvati. There are different legends
surrounding his birth, but one common story is that Ganesha was created by
Parvati from her own body and was given the task of guarding her privacy. When
Lord Shiva unknowingly tried to enter Parvati's chamber, Ganesha, not
recognizing him, prevented him from entering. This led to a confrontation
between Ganesha and Shiva, resulting in Ganesha's head being severed. However,
to console Parvati, Lord Shiva replaced Ganesha's head with that of an
elephant.
Ganesha is highly revered by Hindus and is worshiped before
the beginning of any auspicious task, ceremony, or undertaking. His blessings
are sought for success, knowledge, and the removal of obstacles. Ganesha is
also associated with arts, sciences, and learning. His images and statues can
be found in homes, temples, and various public places throughout India and in
Hindu communities worldwide.
