The 1968 Mercury Cuda XR-7 is part of the 2014 Castline M2 Auto-Drivers series. The XR-7 GT-E is one of a Limited Edition of 5000. This is a first generation model of the famous Cougar XR-7. The Cougar was Mercury’s “Pony Car” entry, responding to the Camaro, Mustang and Barricuda.

Although neglectfully omitted on the M2 packaging and narrative, this model is actually a GT-E version, the RAREST of all Cougars. The GT-E was the NASCAR based Cougar equipped with a 427cid 390bhp engine, non-functional hood scoops and blacked-out grill with horizontal stripes across them. See pictures to authenticate.

The following is an excerpt from a Hagerty article on Cougars in general:

“The most desirable engine was the NASCAR-based 390 bhp, 427 cid monster, available in the high-performance GT-E. It could be recognized by the blacked-out grille with a horizontal stripe and dummy hood scoops.” https://www.hagerty.com/valuation-tools/mercury/cougar/1968/1968-mercury-cougar

This was a VERY LIMITED production car and this model is a Limited Edition model, limited to only 5000 examples worldwide.

The eye-catching, but subtle color of this powerhouse pony car is Caribbean Blue, and it really accents the lines of this bold and strong big block Cougar. The engine is the powerful 427cu. in. 390hp. This car was definitely a formidable 60’s muscle car and this die cast and plastic model is a great recreation of the real thing.  It comes in the original, unopened packaging on cardboard backing, which is in very good condition with minor scuffs.

This item is pre-owned, but not used. Packaging is original, and unopened, with no wrinkles, dimples, bends, tears or markings.
